don't judge a book...

Do you see this big funny guy dressed in his *too small* ski jacket and oversized red sweatshirt??  He's my husband.  He can ski like a 20 year old champion & could care less what people think about him.  Thank goodness, right?  And, I love him lots.
Shane & I made some small goals for ourselves at the beginning of this year.  One was to spend more quality time together.  We planned this overnight ski trip up to Uniondale, PA and my sweet mother agreed to come and be with Davis and Carson while we were away.  We picked up our skis in Scranton, PA. (Yes, office fans...the real Scranton)  I was beginning to have doubts at this point about being able to ski down the mountain in one piece.  I opted for the short skis...they are suppose? to be the easiest.
Anyhoo, we found our adorable lodge tucked waaaay back in the woods and grabbed a bite to eat.  We were up super early the next morning for our day of skiing.  Skiing is like riding a bike.  My knees were a little wobbly at first, but we picked it up really quick.  Ok, so I'm no pro whatsoever...but I did learn to cut back in forth and only fell ONE time!  woo hoo!  This was major for me.  I had not been skiing since New Zealand in 2004- and there I was the Queen of the snowplow.  It was great because the slopes were almost empty until after lunch so we had lots of practice space.
Shane, oh shane.  How I love to laugh at and with him.  He's really good on skiis.  Loves to zoom down the mountain and act like an Olympian.  So patient with me knowing he wants to pass me one hundred times.  A real goofball even on skis.  He didn't fall coming down the mountain, however toppled over like a toy top while standing on flat surface talking to me after a run.  The funniest part was that HE COULD NOT GET UP.  I'm not kidding. It was by far the hardest I've laughed in a good year.  He tried everything.  Were his old bones going to allow him to lie there like a wounded animal?  Oh my.  I can't even describe to you how funny this situation was at the time.  The poor souls on the ski lift got a really good chuckle, i'm quite sure.
I honestly don't remember how he got up.  My tears streaming down my face were frozen at this point and I couldn't see.  It was a really humbling experience for my big tough guy.
The ski resort was perfect.  The weather was almost tooo cold (hince the crazy outfits!).  There were not any lines.  We had a great day of skiing and cannot wait to go back again.  The next day we packed our bags and threw our old bodies into the truck and drove home.  What a great time we had together!
