Happy 4th!

The 4th weekend was a super fun one for our family.  I'm not sure I'll ever forget the one million cars & visitors that were in Ocean City this weekend.  The 2 bridges going over to OC were backed up for a good 10 miles.  It was NUTS!  But, we stayed pretty low key & avoided those crazy tourists.  We went to see Toy Story on Saturday.  Super cute movie & Carson did pretty good for her first flick.  She ate her weight in popcorn & then decided she needed to go after it was all gone.  Luckily, she lasted about an hour and 1/2!  Not bad for that little busy body.  I'm afraid she'll take after her mama and not be able to sit still long enough to enjoy movies.  Davis is quite the opposite...much like his daddy!
Here were are before church sporting our red, white, & blue...
That afternoon, we swam on the back porch & the headed back to the church for some fireworks.  Sounds fun, right?  Well....  The hours leading up to the fireworks were great.  So fun kicking the ball around and eating lots of yummy snacks.  (poor davis has been talking about seeing fireworks for months...we thought we would take him to ease his fear of them.  earplugs, good food, etc....)  Well, the sun hit the horizon and the first boom happened.  I'm not even sure there were actual colors with the first one.  Davis screamed bloody murder and bolted towards the car.  I've never heard anything like it.  We knew he'd be a little scared, but....  Shane tried everything to console him.  We offered to stay in the car w/ him.  He was screaming so loud that it was piercing our ears.  I stayed outside holding Carson.  She was physically trembling.  She held her ears so tight and then politely asked to go sit in the car with Shane.  She sat in her car (and I wish SO bad i had a picture...) with eyes squeezed shut...hands on her ears....and lips together like she was breathing & trying so desperately to get self control.  Shane and I were secretly laughing so hard.  Keep in mind this all took place in LESS than 3 minutes.  We loaded up the fun stuff and hit the road.  When we got home, they could still hear the ones in OC  so we hurried them in side.  They both begged for their beds.... went STRAIGHT to sleep....and we found both of them under their covers 15 minutes later sound asleep.  We couldn't help but to laugh.  And to feel so sorry for them at the same time.
Happy 4th... sans fireworks this year!  :-)

Something funny...
The next day we were planning our day and davis quickly said, "no fireworks!"  Carson was dying laughing and saying (while chasing him in the kitchen).  "We go to firewooks and bubbie stay in car & cry!"  and then would run along and giggle.  ALL day she talked about going back the fireworks & I'm pretty sure she was doing it only to get her Bubbie worked up again.  I'm thinking her little brain didn't remember shaking in her boots and working on her breathing skills.

  1. Hilarious! My Annabelle hates fireworks too, they're too loud she says. We went to the Demorest ones and sat at Demorest Elem and Belle said that was okay b/c it wasn't too loud and Madelynne complained they weren't loud enough! Then on Sunday night, our neighbors across the street shot off their own and of course that was super-loud! Belle almost cried and it woke up Amelia who looked incredibly confused about loud noises coming from somewhere other than her sisters!
